"Old School Love" - Mickaël

As we are chatting with Mickaël, this line from Heat comes to my mind: “All I am is who I’m after”. 1995 - Two of my heroes are directed by Michael Mann. Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino), a fanatic Lieutenant from the LAPD vs. McCauley (Robert De Niro), a genius thief.

We are in La Baie des Singes - one of the most picturesque and quiet areas in Marseille, the sky is blue, and we sit comfortably on the typical white rocks of Les Goudes protected park to face our beautiful Mediterranean Sea. In other words, we are miles away from Heat’s tensed atmosphere.

Still, the line stays in my mind. It’s not just because Mickaël, a talented young actor who has acted in a couple of French movies already, has a heartfelt admiration for Pacino. It’s simpler. It’s about determination. It’s about doing the right thing. It’s about staying true to yourself. Mickaël is not after De Niro: Mickaël is after his dream. His dream is to build his career in the film industry. His determination strikes us. Boosted by his passion and his self-confidence, Mickaël decided to live his dream when he could have given it up a few years ago to enjoy a stable “regular type life”, as Heat’s Pacino would say.

It resonates with what we are willing to achieve at Atelier Domingo’s: staying true to ourselves and to our dreams. Mickaël’s favorite jewelry is our Brooklyn necklace, with a pendant that reminds the texture of a real gold nugget and celebrates the energy of New York - a city where one can make his dream come true, a city that gave birth to… De Niro and Pacino.
